Is the Tata fab in Dholera or Sanand?
Published 3 August 2026. Facts verified to 27 July 2026 unless dated otherwise.
The Tata Electronics + PSMC semiconductor fab (Rs 91,000 crore, 300mm wafers) is at Dholera SIR, about 100 km southwest of Ahmedabad. Micron's assembly, test, marking and packaging plant is at Sanand, near Ahmedabad. They are different projects at different locations, roughly 100 km apart.
Why the confusion persists
Both are Gujarat semiconductor milestones announced in the same policy era, and casual coverage files both under "Gujarat chip plant". The distinction matters commercially: Dholera is a fabrication site with a wafer plant rising inside a notified SEZSpecial Economic Zone: a notified area treated as outside India's customs territory for authorised operations., Sanand hosts back-end assembly and packaging. Anyone modelling land, jobs or supplier demand off the wrong site is modelling a different city.
